Pannus Retractor

Summary

Technology Description

This patent licensing opportunity relates to a simple, easy to use pannus retractor for retracting the pannus of a patient during surgery or examination. The retractor can be used in medical care facilities and at home to enable better access for treatment, examination, and proper hygiene to be conducted. Current pannus retracting devices are large and do not fit well in a variety of patient rooms, offices, or home settings. This retractor overcomes those limitations. Oregon State University is seeking a licensee to develop and commercialize pannus retractor envisioned by the filed patent application.

Features & Benefits

  • Handheld or table mounted for flexible applications
  • Lightweight, small, and highly portable
  • Facilitates patient assisted pannus retraction

Applications

  • Patient examination
  • Surgery
  • In-home care

Background of Invention

Portions of the human body can prohibit the quality of medical care that can be provided. Specifically, excess adipose tissue, e.g. a pannus on an obese individual, may completely obscure availability to a body region requiring a medical procedure, examination, or conducting proper hygiene. Additionally, in medical treatment facilities the availability of sufficient staff members to retract or move the pannus to allow access to the region requiring treatment, examination, or cleaning can be limited.
